Everyone on campus knows John DeVito as the man who does it all. He’s basically the king of UHS. His selfies are known to be iconic. His DeTweeto awards are comparable to Oscars and Noble Peace Prizes. Many would describe him as the voice of school spirit; but who is the man behind the voice? Here is a behind the scenes look into DeVito’s role here on campus, as well as a few personal facts you probably wouldn’t have guessed about him.
Q: How long have you been working for University High School?
A: Eight and a half years.
Q: What is your role at the school?
A: It is probably easier for you to give me a list of things I don’t do. Um, I supervise the counselors, schedules, graduation. I am typically in charge when the principal is not here. Yeah, lots and lots of stuff.

Q: What do the students and faculty mean to you?
A: The students, start with them, they mean everything. I mean, they are the reason we are here. Without them, we don’t have jobs. I know it sounds silly to say that but they mean everything. They are why I do what I do every day. They are why I get up. I get up for the kids. I work for the kids. Everything I do is for the students here. As far as the teachers go, it is a lot of the same. They are why I do what I do. I try to do things to make their life as easy as possible so they can be as effective as possible for the students in the classroom. So, it is like a big, giant cycle.
Q: What would your plan be if the zombie apocalypse started today?
A: I would go on a bike ride because I know they would catch me. If the zombie apocalypse were coming and I didn’t know how much longer I could ride my bicycle, I’d head back to the mountains of Georgia. That was an amazing bicycle ride: 45 miles an hour on the little tires was awesome.
It has been a while since #DeTweeto Awards were handed out!!! THANK YOU for being awesome. #uhstitans #UHSuperTitans pic.twitter.com/913XmjhM1c

Q: If you could be an animal, what animal would you be and why?
A: I would probably be like a cheetah or something because they are just fast and going fast is cool.
Q: What celebrity do you think you are most like and why?
A: I can not of a celebrity I am like because I am a celebrity. I am probably better- I am probably cooler than any celebrities. I mean, most celebrities do not get to come to work with 3,000 of their closest friends every day. Me: I get to come to school with 3,000.
Q: What is something most people do not know about you?
A: I would say some of the triathlon stuff but a lot of people know that now. I am the first-born male of the first-born male of a first-born male and I have a son. So, I am the oldest boy from the oldest boy of the oldest boy and then my oldest was a boy. That and I married my high school sweetheart. This year, it will be 27 years since we started dating, and in a couple days, it will be 22 years of marriage. Is that just special?
