Ranked 22nd in the state, Titans baseball are powering through the new season, currently at 19-5. Taking the season game by game, the team is ready for another run for the state championship.
Through 24 games, the team is living up to their expectation. The team has their eyes set for the state championship they narrowly missed out on winning in 2015.
“Through every play and every game our mindset is the same. We want to beat the crap out of every team and take home the championship,” senior Cameron Robinson said.
On the road to states, the team is taking each game individually and learning from week to week. Fixing the little issues after each game, the Titans are trying to perfect their game before the post season.
“We look at each of our games and try to fix how we play until we are playing perfectly,” senior Nate Peden said.
Although the Titans have had better records in the past, the team has been working even harder this season. A harder schedule and a team full of upperclassmen have led to a more strenuous practice schedule in order to get the seniors their championship before graduating.
“Last year we were younger,” Robinson said. “We are now older, smarter, and stronger as a team, which helps us out a lot.”
The team has worked extremely well together throughout the season. Throughout the year, someone at an extremely important time would come in clutch.
“I think the most beneficial thing has been our teamwork,” Peden said. “Everyone pulls through when we need it, whether it is a big hit or a game saving catch.”
This season the Titans are looking at each game as if it were a playoff game, a win or go home game. This mindset keeps the team playing at their hardest throughout the regular season and gets them ready for the playoffs.
“Our mindset for the post season is that this game can be our last game and we will not accept it. We will win and keep fighting until we win the state championship,” Peden said.
With just one game left in the regular season, the Titans are finding their groove moving into the playoffs. Currently on a 10 game winning streak, the Titans look to close out the season on a high note and have momentum and confidence going into the post season.
