How to Make Crockpot Apples
Fall is in the air, leaves are turning colors, the air is getting cooler…well, almost. As all Floridians know, Florida doesn’t really experience fall. It is summertime almost year-round. But, just because there might not be fall weather doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy the season. Baking season is starting and there are various recipes to try, and crockpot apples are one of them!
- 1/2 cup self-rising flour
- 1/2 rolled oats
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 5 tbsp. butter
- 5 Granny Smith apples (Gala apples will work as well)
- 1/2 cup water
- Cut off the tops of the apples along with the stems so the top is as flat as possible. Core the apples with either an apple corer, sharp knife or spoon.
- Combine oats, flour, sugars, cinnamon, and salt in a small to medium bowl.
- Scoop the mixture into the cored apples. Be sure to pack the mixture inside the apple and top the apple off with additional mixture. *Bag any left over mixture for another batch! There should be enough mixture for two batches of crockpot apples.*
- Pour the water into the crockpot, then place the apples in carefully. Place a tablespoon of butter on top of each apple.
- Cook the apples on low for 2 hours.
- Once done, top with whipped cream or caramel (optional)
